A Guide to Raw Feeding for Dogs

Raw food for dogs is nutrition in its most natural, species-appropriate form – meat, offal, bones, and vegetables. Dogs do not actually need carbohydrates, and excessive amounts can cause intestinal problems and weight gain.

3 reasons why raw feeding is beneficial

  1. During cooking, beneficial enzymes, bacteria, vitamins, and amino acids for the dog are damaged or destroyed. In raw food, nutrients are better preserved, and freezing is a much gentler process compared to cooking.
  2. With natural and unprocessed nutrition, digestibility is better, and the dog's body utilizes natural nutrients more efficiently, which is reflected in the well-being of the dog's coat, skin, and nails.
  3. Raw feeding often normalizes the dog's immune system and keeps infections in check, which also alleviates many skin problems caused by allergies. Raw feeding also supports joint and dental health.

Starting raw feeding

Slow and steady wins the race – transitioning to a new diet should be done gradually, observing your dog's condition.

  • Start with one protein source, such as DIBO chicken meatballs.
  • Start gradually. If your dog is used to kibble, first replace about 10% of their portion with raw food. Increase the raw food portion by one meatball at a time over a few weeks. It's advisable to give your dog probiotics to support digestion during the transition.
  • Take the portion to thaw in the refrigerator the night before. Our small meatballs are easy to portion and thaw for dogs of all sizes.
  • Monitor your dog's well-being: their stomach, coat, and energy levels tell a lot. The positive effects of raw feeding usually start to show about a month after fully transitioning to raw food.

Ingredients

DIBO products use pure domestic meat and offal. Offal, such as liver, provides important vitamins and trace elements. Read more about the origin of our ingredients.

When starting raw feeding, familiarize yourself with your dog's needs: Is your dog sensitive-stomached or allergic? And which protein would be best for an active dog?

Beef

Beef is one of dogs' most loved protein sources – full of flavor and important nutrients! Beef is best suited for active dogs and is often enjoyed by picky eaters. Beef can cause hypersensitivities in some dogs. If your dog reacts sensitively, try turkey or lamb as an alternative!

Chicken and Turkey

Chicken is one of the most popular protein sources for dogs. It is light and easily digestible. Both chicken and turkey are excellent choices, especially for those with sensitive stomachs or a tendency to be overweight. Additionally, turkey is often suitable for allergy sufferers.

Pork

Pork is a rich option, containing plenty of protein and flavor. It is a favorite among gourmands and is especially suitable for active dogs. Pork is not the best option for those with sensitive stomachs or looking to lose weight – fatty meat can be heavy to digest.

Salmon

Salmon is rich in healthy omega-4 fatty acids, which are good for the coat, skin, and joints. Salmon is often a well-tolerated protein source that many enjoy. Salmon is particularly recommended for seniors whose joints need care.

Lamb

Lamb is a gentle and nutritious protein source, especially suitable for active speed demons, those with sensitive stomachs, and allergic dogs. This less commonly used protein is often well tolerated.

Moose and Reindeer

Moose and reindeer are natural and low-fat delicacies, both excellent for allergic dogs. Also try for weight-conscious dogs – their low fat content makes game a lighter option.
